More Balls than Most
History

Cause Marketing Fundraisers (Section 21) (CMF) is addressing the testicular and prostate cancer issue in South Africa by embarking on an awareness and fundraising campaign, the More Balls than Most Campaign.

  • Testicular cancer is the most common malignancy of males aged 15 – 35 years and the incidence of testicular cancer is on the increase in South Africa.
  • There is,however, hope for South African men who are made aware of the disease, as more than 90% of all patients with testicular cancer are cured.
  • Prostate cancer affects 1 in 6 men and is the second most common cause of cancer death in men in the USA and the UK. Early prostate cancer is often completely asymptomatic and men over the age of 50 are therefore encouraged to undergo yearly prostate checks for early detection of the disease.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Increase awareness of testicular and prostate cancer and the prevention thereof.
  2. Generate anticipation for, and excitement about the campaign
  3. Deliver relevant messages throughout the campaign.
  4. Highlight and leverage the sponsors’ association with the campaign.

The world is hooked on HIV Aids but the reality is that in South Africa 1 in 4 will suffer form some kind of cancer in their lifetime – that’s 12 million people whilst HIV accounts for only 5 million.

Amongst those cancers, testicular cancer is the most common malignancy of males aged 15 – 35 years, with the incidence of testicular cancer is on the increase and presents with a painless lump in the scrotum. More than 90% of all patients with testicular cancer are cured from their disease

With prostate cancer, 1 in 6 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime and it is  the second most common cause of cancer death in men in the USA and the UK. Early prostate cancer is often completely asymptomatic  and men over 50 should undergo yearly prostate checks with serum PSA and digital rectal examination.

Amazingly enough, men won’ t talk about either forms of cancer – there is a taboo about men’s genitalia and we need to break the silence – hence ‘More Balls than Most’!

The concept is simple; get men together in activities where they are comfortable but also where we can begin to build awareness of these two diseases.

So this year we are starting with a golf day on July 8 at Centurion golf Club, and then three more in September to raise funds to put together awareness campaigns on TV and radio.  In 2010 we want to involve corporates and have a knock out challenge where we will combine the Camel trophy with other more hilarious activities  and the regional winners will go through to a national final!

So let the games commence!  Let’s see who truly has More Balls than most!
